My Native Land
My Native Land is a short documentary exploring my return to Shetland and my place within its community. It was made as my final piece of work fro University. The film examines three generations of Shetland women: myself, my mother, and my grandmother.
Through a personal lens, the film addresses the impact of alcohol on my mother’s life, and how this has shaped my understanding of family, resilience, and my place within Shetland. It blends observational storytelling with a reflective narrative, grounding the personal within the wider context of Shetland society.
It was screened in Shetland as part of a “Graduates Screening” celebrating young filmmakers from the islands who had completed further education within the creative industries.
